Handwoven sculptural objects from Guatemala

Handwoven willow pieces, made to order. Sizes and colors can be customized.
Every piece is handwoven to order in Guatemala, so production time varies by piece. Prices may vary for custom sizes or colors.
Cálamo was founded by Catalina, an architect raised by architect parents with their own furniture workshop. After working in Barcelona, Miami and Monterrey, she returned to Guatemala to design from home.
The name comes from the Latin calamus, the pen made from a hollow reed. Each piece is drawn with fiber: a line of willow, woven by hand into form by Guatemalan artisans who have dedicated their lives to the craft.
Our shapes are inspired by the tinaja, the clay vessel carried on the head across Guatemala, and by Maya ceramics: cylindrical vessels and polychrome jars, reinterpreted for contemporary interiors.
Part of Design MADE, the new curated space of Design Week Guatemala celebrating objects conceived, designed and made 100% in Guatemala, exhibited at Design House and its pop-up store.
